I earned my degree in Physical Therapy in 1984 from the Alcoitão School of Health in Estoril, and I have dedicated my entire career to the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

My strong motivation to learn led me, from an early age, to pursue postgraduate training with internationally renowned physical therapists, including Robin Blake, Robin McKenzie, and Stephanie Saunders, in the United Kingdom. These experiences had a decisive influence on the development of my clinical reasoning and continue to shape my approach to manual therapy to this day.

After beginning my professional career at Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, I moved to London in 1989 to join University College Hospitals as a Senior Physical Therapist. During that time, I conducted a research project in the field of cardiac rehabilitation, funded by University College London, and earned a master’s degree from City University of London.

In 1991, I was awarded a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Medicine by the Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine (SOMM), marking the beginning of a teaching career that continues to this day, as I regularly teach in postgraduate training programs in Portugal and abroad.

Throughout my career, I have held various leadership roles in the National Health Service (NHS) and the private sector in the United Kingdom. Among other roles, I served as Head of the Physical Therapy Department at Lister Hospital and Team Lead for Advanced Practitioners in Orthopedics at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust. In these roles, I worked closely with orthopedic surgeons in the assessment, triage, and management of complex clinical cases.

Currently, having returned to Portugal, I practice in a private clinic in downtown Lisbon, while also maintaining a strong connection to graduate education and advanced training for healthcare professionals in the fields of musculoskeletal medicine and physical therapy.
